Novel Recommendations

Shelfari - our class's books

What to Read!!!

If your child is having difficulty finding engaging, age-appropriate novels to read, look no further!  Here's a pretty comprehensive list of books that we generated as a class - more to come, as we add to it! I've added a few of my own recommendations, as there are a few I've stumbled across that are fantastic YA titles.

Harry Potter series - JK Rowling
The Hunger Games trilogy - Suzanne Collins
Cherub series - Robert Muchamore
Twilight series - Stephenie Meyer
We All Fall Down - Eric Walters
The Barcode Tattoo and The Barcode Rebellion - Suzanne Weyn
Stargirl - Jerry Spinelli
I Am Number Four series - Pittacus Lore
The Summoning, The Awakening, The Reckoning (The Darkest Powers series) - Kelley Armstrong
The Calling, The Gathering (The Darkness Rising series) - Kelly Armstrong
Divergent and Insurgent - Veronica Roth
Tuck Everlasting - Natalie Babbitt
Uglies, Pretties, and Specials - Scott Westerfield
Gone series - Michael Grant
The Giver - Lois Lowry
The Outsiders - S.E. Hinton
Ender's Game - Orson Scott Card
Matched - Ally Condie
The Maze Runner series - James Dashner
Leap Day - Wendy Mass
Hatchet - Gary Paulsen
Matilda - Roald Dahl
Shiver, Linger, Forever (The Wolves of Mercy Falls series) - Maggie Stiefvater
Empty - Suzanne Weyn
City of Bones - Cassandra Clare
The Lightning Thief (The Percy Jackson and the Olympians series) - Rick Riordan
Chronicles of Narnia series - C.S. Lewis
The Golden Compass - Philip Pullman
The Perks of Being a Wallflower - Stephen Chbosky

The following novels are excellent, but the topics in them are mature.  They deal with some pretty serious topics for teens, so I would recommend that parents/guardians check them out before letting students read them.

Cut - Patricia McCormick
Speak - Laurie Halse
A Monster Calls - Patrick Ness
Thirteen Reasons Why - Jay Asher (I haven't read this one yet, but I have heard it's quite something and it's on my "to-read-soon" list)
