Hi everyone,
Today we used our computer login information to visit our school e-mail accounts. If students go to mail1.scdsb.on.ca, they can log in to their e-mail accounts from home, as well. These e-mail addresses are intended to be used for school-related websites that students are directed to by their teachers, such as edmodo, bitstrips, edublogs, and gizmos. All important information (e.g., class codes) is located at the right hand side of our blog.
We had a discussion today about appropriate use of the school e-mail accounts, reminding students that it is to be used only in an educational capacity. The basic etiquette that's expected is the same etiquette that would be expected in a classroom. Students will not use these sites for socializing or social networking, but will use them to engage in meaningful discussions and idea sharing.
I am very excited to increase our use of technology in our classrooms. In the near future, we may be inviting students to bring in their own devices (e.g., iPods, iPads, laptops, etc.) to access and use our wireless internet at the school. All use will be under direct supervision of teachers, and students will not be able to access personal accounts, such as Facebook, Twitter, Hotmail, or other e-mail accounts (just to name a few). There is a new poll at the right hand side of the blog that I invite you to participate in, so that we can determine interest in the personal device program.
Thanks so much,
Miss Skelton :)
