Conferences

Hi everyone,

I wanted to extend my thanks to you for attending this year's conferences.  I really enjoyed speaking with you about your child's progress in Grade 8.  I did notice that there were a few questions that arose with a few families, and I thought I would address them for all, as they might be questions for you, too!

1)  Homework - students should be reading for at least 20 minutes a night (although it has never been assigned, it is a great habit to get into); students are always encouraged to take notes home to review in the evenings, even if specific questions have not been assigned; online tutoring, websites, and activities can support student learning, and promote parent involvement with various subjects. Links are available through the tabs at the top of this page.

2)  Grade 9 - many parents were wondering about course selection for highschool.  We will have Mr. Shank and Mr. Harvey from BDHS here for an information session with students in January.  Course selection information will go home at that time, and students will have opportunities to discuss their selections with you at home.  If you have ANY questions about the stream your child should be in (academic, applied, or locally developed) or any questions about the students' elective choices, please contact me and we can discuss the most appropriate path for your child. My Blueprint will be available for all students to try as soon as I get all the information I need with regards to how they can access the program.
3) Extra help - I am in my portable every morning by 8:45, so if students need extra help, or time on computers for academics, I am available to supervise them at this time.  Also, if students require clarification for anything at the end of the day, I can be here to assist where necessary.  My only request is that students take the initiative to ask or attend on their own.
* I will be reinforcing that this is NOT time to come in and warm up in the winter! *

Thanks again for your participation!  If you haven't been in for a conference yet, we can arrange a time in the near future to meet and discuss your child's grade 8 year.

Miss Skelton :)
